About Me

Welcome To Western Wellbeing

I began practicing yoga in my early 20s and was inspired by how much better I felt mentally and physically when I practiced. It became my go-to at the end of a stressful day, helped me through my pregnancies, and calmed me when my work-life balance was nonexistent.

In 2016, fed up with the unsustainable demands of my career in the corporate world, I retrained as a yoga teacher and founded Western Wellbeing, a yoga and wellness business based in Braunton, North Devon. I wanted to use my skills to help people in a holistic and tangible way and found joy in helping people to make a positive change in their lives, simply by improving their wellbeing.

Since then I have added specialist trainings in Chair Yoga, HIIT Yoga Fusion and Somatic Yoga for Healing and Recovery from Stress, Trauma and Anxiety. I teach group and private yoga lessons each week, at Park Yoga and festivals and have over 3500 hours of teaching experience. I also lead corporate retreat days, and mediation and mindfulness workshops to manage workplace anxiety.

When I'm not teaching I love being at home with my family, spending time with friends, swimming in the sea, walking the coast path, playing in the woods, singing, dancing, and reading.

My Philosophy

I named my business “Western Wellbeing” because I live and work close to the sea in beautiful North Devon in the South West of England and because I adopt a western style approach to my yoga teaching.

I don’t use the original Sanskrit names for our yoga poses. They are beautiful and carry a magic of their own but can be difficult for English speaking people to remember or identify with.

Some of the traditional schools of yoga have very specific ideas about how a pose must be performed but I like to adapt and adjust the pose to suit an individual’s body and ability. I’m interested in the science of movement physiology and change my practice as we learn more about how and why our bodies move in different ways.

I don’t tend to incorporate much philosophy into my lessons. For example, I don’t use chanting or refer to chakras. However, I have a great respect for yogic philosophy and believe we have much to learn from the ancient teachings.
