The mind and the body are not separate; what affects one, affects the other.

If your mouth waters at the thought of your favourite food, you’re experiencing the mind-body connection. If you’ve ever felt the butterflies in the pit of your stomach, you’ve felt how your thoughts affect the functioning of your intestines. Our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our complete biological functioning.

What we do with our physical body, such as what we eat, how much we exercise, and even our posture can impact our mental state in a positive or negative way.

There is a biofeedback loop between our bodies and our brains. Our minds and bodies are interrelated and a regular yoga practise will improve your sense of wellbeing by hacking into this biofeedback loop.

The brain and the peripheral nervous system, the endocrine system and the immune system, all the organs of our body, and in turn, all the emotional responses we have share a common chemical language and are continually communicating with one another.

Yoga helps you to become more conscious of your mental state. Using this increased awareness, you can guide your thoughts in a positive direction. If you are thinking in more positive ways your body releases less of the anxiety based chemicals such as cortisol, the primary stress hormone, which in turn can improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Yogic exercises, or asanas, will strengthen your body, improve your posture, increase your flexibility, and help to alleviate aches and pains. This naturally helps to increase your overall levels of confidence which in turn also leads to a reduction in cortisol. You will start to feel better. The beauty of yoga is that it can be practiced at any age and with all levels of ability.

A balanced yoga class will contain breathwork to help you foster and strengthen the relationship between your mind and body, asanas to strengthen your body, improve your circulation, detoxify your organs and improve your flexibility and mediation to help you quieten down the chatter of the mind voice and encourage your thoughts in a more positive direction. Yoga is a complete holistic program which helps to improve your overall health and wellbeing.
