Acupuncture

Mark is an experienced GP and has practised Western Medical Acupuncture for approximately 10 years.

Western Medical Acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment involving the insertion of fine needles; it is an adaptation of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology and the principles of evidence based medicine.

While Western Medical Acupuncture has evolved from Traditional Chinese Acupuncture it is now regarded as part of conventional western medicine rather than a complete “alternative medicine” system. It is a complex treatment modality which, at its most basic, acts both locally by neuromuscular stimulation and myofascial release and centrally by stimulating the nervous system (via segmental and extrasegmental neuromodulation, and other central nervous system effects). Western Medical Acupuncture is mainly used to treat musculoskeletal disorders and myofascial trigger point pain, but is also used extensively to treat postoperative pain and nausea, insomnia, and addictions amongst others.

If you are unsure whether acupuncture could be a suitable treatment option, Mark is very happy to discuss this prior to booking.

Mark also offers advice and counselling in life management and diet and nutrition advice.
